Good lighting makes a real difference to a home. Downlights in the right places make a kitchen easier to use, and garden lighting lets you enjoy the garden for more of the year.

I fit indoor lighting, garden and driveway lighting, and security lighting, including the switches and controls.

Signs to look out for

Downlights in the wrong places

Downlights set out in a neat grid can leave you working in your own shadow. They work best planned around worktops and seating.

Security lights that come on all the time

A sensor pointing at the road or a neighbour's garden will keep switching on. Moving it or adjusting the sensitivity usually sorts it.

Outdoor lighting needs weatherproof fittings, the right cable and RCD protection on its own circuit.

Outdoor lighting

Outdoor lighting uses weatherproof fittings and cable, on its own circuit with RCD protection. Indoor lighting uses standard fittings. Both are installed to the current wiring regulations.
