Signs to look out for
A burning smell or scorch marks
Switch the circuit off at the fuseboard if it's safe to, then call me. A burning smell needs dealing with straight away.
The board keeps tripping
If a switch trips again as soon as you reset it, there's a fault on that circuit. Leave it off and call me.
The power has gone off
First check whether your neighbours have power. If they do and your board looks normal, the fault is inside your property. Call me.
What to do before I arrive
If you know which circuit is affected, switch it off at the fuseboard and leave it off. A switch that keeps tripping is protecting you.
Keep everyone away from anything wet or scorched. If you smell burning and can't switch it off safely, leave the property and call 999.
